Do you want to teach English in Japan? Are you willing to teach in a small but a good quality school?

Here it is!

         【WORKING ENVIROMENT】

I/You Eikaiwa was established in 1980 in the southern area of the city of Sendai. It is a very small private language school but a good quality school. There are about 85 students, from babies to adults (all ages), and in addition we have five outside kindergartens contracts to teach their classes in Sendai and Natori city. There is a wonderful manager and one Japanese part-time teacher along with one full-time foreign teacher. Students are all different ages; some are cute babies with mothers and they come with a strong desire to learn English. This is a job you will never forget. The work can be hard but incredibly rewarding. You really get to know your students on a personal level, and students will touch your hearts! Michiko Eckard is the owner and head instructor.

         【JOB DUTIES】

As a basic requirement, will be on duty for 140 hours per month, which includes up to 90 hours of teaching per month (Job duty includes teaching, curriculum development, making materials, teachers' meetings, and workshops). Classes range from small children through adults and include, kindergarten classes, and "English salons" (informal conversation over tea or coffee, one or more learners). Our classes are small, usually from three to eight learners, but the kindergarten classes are bigger, 20~30 students per class. Some classes at kindergartens are teaching with our Japanese English teacher; the kindergarten classes are in the mornings or early afternoons, our classes are usually from 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. Some days are busier than others. The kindergarten classes are in session about eight or nine months in a year; (Classes are 11~35 times a year depending on the kindergarten's schedule.) when they are on break, the teachers have more free time. One-year contract (two-year contract renewable).

         【COMPENSATION & BENEFITS】

Monthly salary is 220,000~240,000 yen in the first year; 240,000~255,000 yen in the second year. Some busy months you may make more because of overtime. Over 90 teaching hours per month is paid an overtime rate of 2400 yen per hour. We will pay 50,000-yen bonus to cover the airfare or start-up cost associated with relocation if you commit to work at least one year. We don't pay airfare initially, but after one year we pay either 30,000-yen toward travel expenses, or, if the teacher renews her/his contract, we pay 50,000 yen toward travel expenses at the end of the second year (but in this case, we do not pay 30,000 yen at the end of the first year). Free Internet access at school for teachers.

         【DAYS OFF & VACATION】

Every Sunday off except one Sunday in December and the second and fourth Saturday of each month off. A little less than five weeks of paid vacation in a year at the following times: Thirteen days in August, fourteen days at Christmas, and three days a year on sick leave without deduction. All Japanese national holidays.

         【ACCOMMODATIONS】

The school will locate an apartment in the area and pay the initial deposits, except for a one-time deposit, 20,000 yen, which will be applied to any cleaning and damage charges accruing when the teacher evacuates the premises. We also furnish the apartment, apart from bedding--you'll have to buy your own sleeping futon, not bed. Upon occupancy, the teacher will pay the monthly rent (about 50,000 yen per month) and a lease fee of 4,000 yen per month for the furnishings.

         【ABOUT SENDAI CITY】

Modern downtown with pedestrian shopping streets, new subway, growing foreign population (about 5,000 Westerners?), authentic Japanese experience. Japanese lessons available, either free or at reasonable rates, at some of the municipal community centers. In winter, good skiing is less than one and half-hour away by car, bus, or train.
